LINKEDIN 101

Cristina Lanz Azcarate with attendees to the LInkedin training event

Last night, Personal Branding Consultant and fellow committee member to our Director Cristina Lanz Azcarate at National Association of Women In Construction (NAWIC) London & South East Beatrice Ronchetti delivered LInkedin 101, a brilliant workshop focused on the role that LinkedIn can play in elevating one's profile across their sector to reach out to their desired audiences.

The workshop, hosted at Avison Young, started with a reminder of the importance of building a Personal Brand that reflect us as individuals followed by a quiz aimed at positioning LinkedIn as the tool to help us do so.

Beatrice then discussed in detail three key areas:

  • Profile (which she defined as the outfit we wear)

  • Network (or the people in the room)

  • Content (the voice we want others to hear)

It was an insightful presentation with plenty of takeaways and many interesting discussions among attendees. These, are some point that stood out for Cristina:

  • Before embarking in making changes to our profiles, we need to consider what we want to be known for and who we can provide value to.

  • To attract the relevant opportunities and reach out to the right audiences , we each have to ensure that we keep our Public Profile up to date. i.e. it reflects where we are at in our career. From our photo to our role description or the skills we highlight, they should all be current and relevant.

  • Beatrice suggested to use the first 4 lines we write in each of the various sections as a summary rather than the beginning of a longer text. This way regardless of whether visitors choose to read more or not, they will be able to access relevant information immediately.

  • She also shared that LinkedIn has a strong preference for articles and posts with photographs and videos, specially those that show humans and suggested to use this to illustrate , among others, the experience section.

This is a pic Cristina took to use in LinkedIn and let's test the theory ;-)

  • According to Beatrice, because people absorb information in different ways, providing a variety of media creates opportunity also to connect with more types of people.

  • The final note Cristina wrote on her pad was that one will find their audience where "what they want to talk about" meets "what people want to listen to".
