View of the interior of a lighting shop

Choosing the right light fittings is a common challenge for our clients. Many come to us with pieces of sentimental value that require a thoughtful home within a new interior.

At our London studio, we view lighting not just as a fixture, but as an architectural material. Our approach is rooted in our heritage, blending an appreciation for shadow and atmosphere with bold, textural honesty.

To achieve a balanced environment, we move beyond simple illumination and follow a methodical, three-layer lighting strategy.

1. Ambient Lighting: Creating the "Ma" (Atmosphere)

Ambient lighting establishes the base mood of a room. In our architectural projects, we look for ways to hide the source of light to let the atmosphere breathe. While ceiling pendants and wall lights are standard, we often integrate low-level lighting for a more rhythmic, grounded feel.

  • Architectural Integration: Consider lighting for stair treads and bathroom niches.

  • The Benefit: This adds a layer of safety and "quiet luxury," guiding you through the home with a soft, diffused glow.

2. Task Lighting: Precision and Clarity

Next, we identify areas that require focused, functional light. Here, technical specifications like colour temperature and CRI (Colour Rendering Index) are vital. Whether you are an artist in a North London studio or a chef at a busy restaurant pass, you need to see "true" colours.

  • Strategic Placement: Under-cabinet lighting in the kitchen, internal wardrobe illumination, and targeted desk lamps.

  • The Detail: For those working with fine materials—like tailors or designers—high-quality task lighting is essential to prevent eye strain and celebrate the texture of the work.

3. Accent Lighting: Highlighting Character

Finally, we use accent lighting to draw the eye to the "jewels" of the architecture. This is where we celebrate the unique features of a London property, from intricate Victorian cornicing to modern, raw-material facades.

  • Focus Points: Directional spotlights for artwork or grazing lights that catch the uneven beauty of a stone wall.

  • The Result: When you layer lighting thoughtfully, the space becomes more than just functional; it becomes a home that feels comfortable, curated, and uniquely yours.
