How do you typically choose which lighting fixtures to use in your space?
Choosing light fittings is not esy and many of our clients bring pieces with sentimental value and need guidance on how to incorporate them into a new interior. Lighting plays a key role in this process, and it can be challenging to get it right. That’s why we approach lighting design methodically, using a layered strategy:
1. Ambient Lighting: We start by establishing the overall mood of the room with ambient lighting. This often includes ceiling pendants, wall lights, and spotlights....but also low level lighting including stairs and bathrooms adding both safety and style.
2. Task Lighting: Next, we pinpoint where focused lighting is needed for specific activities. Think under-cabinet lights in the kitchen, inside wardrobes, above workstations, or even at a restaurant pass. Here, the colour and brightness of the light become more important, especially if you need to see true colours. Think artists, tailors, or anyone who works with detail.
3. Accent Lighting: Finally, we use accent lighting to highlight special features such as artwork, intricate cornices, or even a façade (should planning allow for it) When you layer your lighting thoughtfully, and you can create spaces that are both functional and beautiful but more importantly , that are comfortable for you.
Do you have a favourite way to use lighting in your home?
