FINDING YOUR STYLE

Have you ever looked at an interior shop and struggled seeing your style reflected? You are not alone. Shop fronts are filled to the brim with pieces that are full or drama and perfectly in scale for window displays but too large for most homes. On the top of that they look to catch the eye and hence many display decorative objects rather than useful ones, making it difficult to relate. Our tips for anyone looking to furnish their home are quite simple: 1. Know your sizes (the room sizes, the size of the things you already have, the space you need to comfortably move across your house etc.) 2. Plan what you want to keep (this will start showing you what styles and level of comfort you are happy to live with and provide a starting point) 3. Research. Take time to find out how you live and what you like. Before putting pen to paper, get to know your habits and your preferences. Looking at professionals in action it is easy to forget the many years training we went through and the many projects we have delivered in order to be able to navigate the process with ease. Most people don't give themselves time to think about these things. In fact, exploring what they may like is something they have never had to do. 4. Be cautious when asking people you know for their opinion because it can become overwhelming. Everyone who lives in a building has an opinion, however, it is mostly based in their own home not professional insight. As such it might not be relevant , implementable in your home and it can become highly confusing. We recently worked with a lovely client who had never needed to think about interiors. His expertise was in an unrelated highly field. He has a very tightknit family who continuously provided their unsolicited opinion. By working together, he was able to find his own voice. 4. Collect samples and photos that catch your eye and make notes and observations in a pocket notebook. 5. Seek out professional advice to, at the very least, help you organise your thoughts and find your voice amidst the noise. It goes without saying but should you be stuck and need help to move your ideas forward check link in bio.
