THE COLOUR OF GLASS

Image of a facade where you can see the tone of the glass is different in some areas

Have you noticed how the colour of glass changes across some windows ?.

This can sometimes be on purpose (for example to control the solar gains inside a property or for decorative reasons) and sometimes it is accidental (when a window breaks and the replacement uses glass that is sourced from a different place).

If you look around the street where you live, you will also noticed that single glazed windows and double or triple glazed windows also look different from the street as each layer of glass adds a tone. This is one of the reasons why when it comes to conservation areas and to listed buildings, some officers will try to resist the replacement of windows and demand secondary glazing instead.

If you plan to replace your windows , there are many things to consider and glass is just one of them. If you need help, we have experience helping our clients navigate these kinds of conundrums.
