Inspirational women in Business
I am always more than happy to support and highlight people doing great work.
I am also happy to let them know that I believe in them and how brilliant I think they are, because this is something that we tend to do with our inside voices (the ones only we are aware of) and yet, specially when you run a business, feeling supported and seen can have a real impact. I know this first hand, as does any business owner.
In the STEM and construction sectors, where women are already a minority, women business owners are a rarity and initiatives such as Inspirational Business Women in Stem and Construction are wonderful opportunities to identify some brilliant ones to collectively act as role models and mentors to the next generation of women entrepreneurs.
Recently a friend told me how evident it is that I enjoy what I do and, in fact, how varied it is what I do. She caught me by surprise but the truth is that being able to choose the kind of projects we get involved with is a privilege, and it is also something that would not have been possible while working at someone else's company. (I tried for fifteen years. 15!)
The campaign has resulted in a nominee longlist comprising over 70 women and tonight I will be attending the celebratory event at the House of Lords as one of them.
It is wonderful to be in the longlist, however, I must confess that what I am most excited about is catching up with the remarkable women I admire so much and to meet those I have not yet met.
